I visited Dr. Getlin with my father in 1971. Never forget that middle of night visit. I wasn’t able to keep with what he recommended for eating but it is now so popular a way to eat-meat and vegetables mostly, no sugar, no flour. He showed me his teeth, how they were all his as he hadn’t eaten sugar in 50 years. So sad to hear about the attack he experienced. Thanks for this post, it was so good to hear about him from others, especially that whirling dervish part-what an incredible intervention!

My mother and I visited Dr. Getlin in the middle of the night in the mid '70's. He told me Katherine Hepburn was one of his patients. He was the naturopathic Wizard of Oz. He wore slippers and prescribed vitamins from behind a curtain while examining your stool sample under a microscope. My father referred to him as "Dr. Soft Shoes". He was quite a unique character far ahead of his time! RIP

I remember being a little girl and waking up in the middle of the night to go with my parents who would travel to see Dr Getlin in N.J. We lived in Philadelphia .. I also recall them asking him to help me with a childhood bed wetting problem that i had and he solved it prescribing whatever vitamins he had them give to me - his office was a mess - he was incredibly memorable - as I am now 63 years old and my dad is 93 years old and totally attributes his longevity to all the supplements Dr Getlin prescribed way back then - he was ahead of his time - and it is ironic that my career path has been in the nutritional industry. It nauseates me to think how he was beaten by those horrible people - such a sweet and gentle person who dedicated his life to helping others - I am grateful for the memory I have of him and how vivid it is in my mind waking up and taking that drive with my mom and dad to see him. May he always rest in peace .
